“Jesus Freak” Turns 25

The year was 1995 and the album that would become the anthem for a generation of Christian teenagers had arrived. TobyMac, Kevin Max and Michael Tait who formed the band, DC Talk, are now celebrating the 25th anniversary of their album, Jesus Freak!

TobyMac, lead singer and also the albums co-producer said,  “We went into that house that we turned into a studio, with no formula and said musically whatever comes out, comes out. We kept the same goal in mind, to use our music and platform to point people to God.”

Mark Heimermann, album producer and co-writer shared, “When we were finishing up the project, we played Jesus Freak for the label for the first time and, let’s just say, it wasn’t received well” he says “I later heard that they thought it was the beginning of the end for dc Talk.

Needless to say, they were all shocked when the very next year “Jesus Freak” would win the Dove Award for Song of The Year in 1996.  The album has gone on to sell over two million copies in the United States and is considered one of the greatest and most influential Christian albums of all time!
