A Look Back At Christian Music Artists Who Started on American Idol

It’s hard to believe that the hit television show American Idol is nearly 20 years old! MovieGuide.org put together a really cool list of some of the most memorable breakout artists that have had successful careers from the show and have also been bold in sharing their faith. Here are a few of our favorites:

Danny Gokey | He was a church music director from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, before his Season 8 run on the show. You’ll also hear him on our chart this week with his song “New Day”. We’ve got a clip of Danny’s audition for the show here:

Mandisa | She grew up singing in the church and although she placed 9th in season 5, she’s been on our 20 The Countdown Magazine chart many times!

Carrie Underwood | She won the fourth season of American Idol and has since become an icon in country music. However, we’ve been talking about her a lot lately as she recently released two Christian records, “My Gift” and “My Savior.” We’ve got a clip from the 56th Annual American Country Music Awards where she performed “My Savior”:

Lauren Daigle | She auditioned for American Idol in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Although she was cut from the competition all three times, she has since become one of the most successful Christian artists of the decade. She’s even on our chart this week with her new song “Hold On To Me”!

Colton Dixon | He placed seventh on season 11 in 2002 and has released many hit songs since then! Check out this video where he reflects on his time on the show:

We love seeing how God has given such an opportunity for so many artists to share their faith while on such a big stage on American Idol! Who is your favorite Christian music artist that has come from American Idol? Let us know in the comments below!
